In the midst of summer, every year San Diego houses one of the largest conventions known to the Comic industry, also known as Comic-Con. With floods of over 20,000+ attendees, you're sure to find all sorts of pre-parties, after-parties, and one-off events happening all over San Diego. This year, MTV decided to host, for the first time, The MTV Fandom Awards, and what not a better time and location to host them than at the heart of Comic-Con week. Now of course, you can't just have an awards ceremony without some form of entertainment....right? And furthermore, you can't just have entertainment without some form of Co2 Special Effects RIGHT?....

Well, without sugar coating it, what you see is what you get. MTV Fandom Awards featuring G-Eazy and Linkin Park, with CryoFX Co2 Jets making quite the appearance and definitely setting the tone for a "Blast" of a time! The Fandom Awards were held on July 24th and aired on MTV the following Sunday. Were not here to talk about that though. What we are here to talk about is the Cryo System which was used for this event. now, CryoFX had a hand in other areas of Comic-Con 2014, but for the most part, really made an appearance for the Fandom Awards ft. G-Eazy performance.

The setup essentially consisted of (4) CryoFX Co2 Jet DMX 512 jets, the same ones used on the main stages of Coachella and EDC. Each jet had is own 50lb Co2 Tank which was secured on the sides of the stage. CryoFX Brand High Pressure Co2 Hose was used to feed the Co2 to each jet. Once the MTV Fandom Awards started, the Co2 Jets were put on standby until G-Eazy performed. They were then primed and used for the remainder of the evening!

As shown in images and videos (www.youtube.com/CryoFX), the humidity was just right as the Cryo Jets reached heights of over 45ft. This is a perfect example of how the correct humidity level can affect the output of Co2 Jets. As for now, the MTV Fandom Awards ft. Linkin Park and G-Eazy was a hit and is publicized by many media outlets to include Yahoo News, MTV Networks and more, all of which include photos of Co2 Special Effects provided by CryoFX!

Yet another huge event is in the midst of production. One day out from doors opening and the hype is massive. For EDC 2014, you can expect many things, surprises or not, but one to add to the list is CryoFX Co2 Jets making an appearance. This year Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2014 falls on June 20-22 and will feature some of the best performances to date. What makes these performances so great? Items such as Co2 Jets, Cryo Cannons, LED Co2 Jets and other types of Co2 Special Effects.

What is a Co2 Cannon?

Many talks and debates have risen to the names of certain items and whether or not these names are specific to any certain brand or model. In particular, co2 cannon. So what exactly is a co2 cannon? Well, in the industry of Co2 Special Effects there are many names used loosely to describe different products. Here we will use the handheld Cryo gun as an example for case and point. Names such as Co2 Gun, Cryo Cannon, Co2 Cannon (also C02 Cannon), Cryo Pistol, and Handheld Co2 Jet have been used. Variations in spelling have also been seen such as Cryo Canon, Co2 Canon, C02 Cannon, and C02 Canon, which all use one "N" instead of two in the later of the two worded name.

As you can see, with all the names circulating online, things can get confusing. What's not confusing is that, regardless of the names used to label any specific product, the term Co2 Cannon actually depicts an effect and a style of special effects products used within a event". Going back to basics, when dissecting the two word phrase, "cannon" labels the type of product and effect, a device that ejects or shoots matter out of itself such as Cryo Cannon, Co2 Cannon, Cryo Canon, Co2 Canon, Cryo Jet or Handheld Co2 Jet. The first part of the phrase "co2" labels the type of gas. So when combined, Co2 Cannon, regardless spelled with two "N's" or one (Co2 Canon), is used to describe, in general, a special effect style apparatus used to shoot effects such as fog, co2, or confetti within a event.

When reviewing the creation and progression of certain terms such as C02 Cannon, foreign countries outside the United States and overseas such as Brazil, France, and others within European Union, have taken credit for first use of these terms. Whereas the term Cryo Gun originated in the medical field naming the type of apparatus that freezes by method of spraying liquid co2 (used commonly to freeze warts off), this same term made its way to the special effects industry as the product used within co2 special effects also sprays liquid co2, so essentially the two uses are very similar but different methods of use, different industries, and of course, with special effects co2, the Cryo Gun sprays much much more co2 out.

Moving forward in time, after the Cryo Gun has made a name for itself in the co2 special effects business, people in other countries would start searching for it online. These search terms weren't always "Cryo Gun" as people in other countries call items such as "Gun" a different name. Furthermore slang progressed, terms got intermixed, and before you know it, a simple two word phrase now took on many names. And it didn't stop there, as these searches broadened to include the usage and venues used. One of the more popular to come about, Co2 Cannon, similarly Co2 Canon. Other terms such as Cryo Cannon also spelled Cryo Canon, Co2 Cannon or Co2 Canon (even C02 Cannon) have been used as the word Cannon takes the place of Gun when used in other countries. The same with Pistol and Jet as seen with Cryo Pistol, Co2 Pistol or Handheld Co2 Jet and Handheld Cryo Jet.

As you can see things can get pretty tricky with names of co2 special effects products. Things can also get confusing with the settings they are used in and the type of products as well. Hopefully we have cleared up some confusion here, so in the future if you happen to be searching for a Co2 Cannon or Co2 Canon, you'll be ready to be bombarded with so many different options! You'll also know the spelling differences from Cryo Cannon and Cryo Canon and Co2 Cannon to Co2 Canon / C02 Cannon. You'll also know that a Handheld Co2 Jet and Cryo Jet will lead to similar items and to sum it all up, you'll finally see for yourself that a Co2 Cannon is the basic phrase used for a event style effect!

Coachella 2014 is bigger and badder than ever! In keeping on board with the latest trends within the production industry, what more appropriate would it be to incorporate Co2 Jets and Co2 Cannons?! Rewind a few weeks ago and your smack in the middle of pre-production for one of the largest all around music festivals in the United States. Here, the idea became a reality when CryoFX was contacted and an order was placed for a large quantity of Co2 Canons, more specifically the CryoFX Co2 Jet DMX 512 (https://www.cryofx.com/products-page/2/). Soon after the order was placed, 1 day soon, the Cryo Cannons were on their way to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

Local production crews and production staff received the Co2 Jets (also named Cryo Canons) and set them up accordingly. Setup finished just in time for weekend 1 of Coachella Music Festival 2014. Weekend 2 of Coachella is still a day away, but there's no doubt that it will be as eventful, if not more, than weekend 1. After review of Coachella 2014 weekend 1, it was apparent that the Co2 Jets were a hit as they appeared front and center for Calvin Harris closing out weekend 1 on the Main Stage. Billboard did a great job of describing the event, and included a great image as well:

Coachella 2014 not only incorporated Co2 Cannons but also made sure to have a CryoFX Handheld Cryo Gun (co2 club cannon). LED Co2 Jets and LED Cryo Gun in Don Diablo's "Starlight" music video

EDM, or electronic dance music has made its way as one of the most likened music genres to date. Following the more popular songs, by nature, is a music video.  These videos can range from animated to actuality, and sometimes don't even relate to the video or content it represents. Countering this, are videos that correlate with the genre the songs takes after. This is such with the video Starlight by Don Diablo.

Produced in early 2014 by a very talented and highly respected Kyle Padilla, the video showcases two lovers that are taken back to certain times via memories. What the video also showcases is CryoFX co2 jets and a few handheld co2 cannons. To be specific, depending on the scene shot, four LED Co2 Jet Machines and two LED Co2 Cannons (also known as Cryo LED Gun or LED Cryo Gun) were used. The video included co2 special effects and co2 jet systems in a few different scenes. The first, not by order of sequence, showed four LED Co2 Jet machines in the background of the club rave scene. You can see the clouds of co2 spraying in the background over the dancing crowd while these clouds are lot by colored LEDs, which if course are built into the co2 cannon.

In another scene the same LED Co2 Jet machines are shown at the wedding scene spraying upward after the two lovers are married. Here you can see the co2 jets without the LEDs. In another scene of Don Diablo's Starlight video appears another led co2 cannon. A girl is shown spraying CryoFX LED Cryo Gun (Cryo LED Gun) while she dances on the stage.

These two scenes stand out more than other however they are not the only scenes showing the use of co2 special effects. Other co2 jet systems were used during production which appear in other snippets of the video. Much more effects and led co2 cannons were also used, including many takes on all scenes with the handheld Cryo gun, however these didn't make it past post production due to some changes along the way. Regardless, the video and images will be available soon and will be viewable online in a short time to come.

Co2 Cannon - Co2 Canon for Sale

Yes you have seen them everywhere. The infamous Co2 Cannon. Whether it was at an event, on a music video, at a large scale event or by a friend at a backyard party, they are out there and they are in full effect. Whether you've seen it advertised as "Co2 Canon" or " Co2 Cannon" the principle is the same, it's a Handheld Cannon and it sprays liquid co2 at crowds of people by usage of an operator.  There are many models and styles but the general purpose is the same. Here, well talk about the few variations and what they offer.

The basic Co2 Cannon

The basic co2canon is the most sought after piece of special effects equipment available. This lightweight handheld co2 cannon can be used by anyone, and due to its small size and lightweight, can be maneuvered and transported with ease. A few companies offer different styles online such as CryoFX.com, HandheldCryoGun.com, and Co2Cannon.com. These styles range from metal to aluminum nozzles and come with a standard length hose. So far one company has their own branded hoses, CryoFX, which has been the standard hose in the industry for years.

The Dual Nozzle Co2 Cannon

The Dual Nozzle Canon is another very popular item. It combines the previously mentioned co2 cannon with simply another nozzle. So instead of having one nozzle, there are two nozzles, which shoot the stream of co2 in the same direction. Depending on the maker, some designed allow the user to adjust the angle of the nozzles so the streams can spray in different areas. This is useful if you are trying to cover more of an area with just one piece of equipment. Other features are normally the same since there is just another nozzle added on, however sometime there will be a handle added as well for further stability.

The Custom Logo Co2 Cannon

That's right, the custom logo co2 canon features your custom logo on the co2 cannon itself. By means of uploading your custom image, the designers at CryoFX can format and place your logo directly onto your item. Depending on the style of Cryo Gun you purchased, the logo may be engraved or printed onto the nozzle. With CryoFX brand, other options include custom designed logos which contain a special hybrid of your logo and the CryoFX logo. This is a great marketing tool for yourself if your a Dj or an event or traveling entertainment act and want to showcase your brand as you go.

The Lighted Co2 Cannon

The step up from the standard Cryo gun is the lighted co2 canon. This style of handheld co2 cannon incorporates a light on the top which lights the stream of Co2 up as it shoots out of the end. This is an added feature which many take liking to as when it is used within an event environment, or a dark non-lit area, the light will illuminate the cloud of co2 allowing the ability to see the cloud from across the room or area. Lenses can be placed over the light so different colors can be chosen. The light does not change the output at all and only adds minimal weight since it is similar to the weight of a flashlight. Depending on the model of lighted co2 cannon, you can adjust the zoom of the light for a larger or smaller circle of light, similar to a zoom on a flashlight. This model of co2 canon comes with a second handle for more control of where the unit will spray and also requires batteries for the light only.

 

 The LED Co2 Cannon

Many inquiries and conversations have evolved around the LED co2 canon. This by far is the most flashy style of co2 cannon. Some styles remains one color when lit and others will cycle through a preset band of colors, generally red, green, and blue. These items are also good for marketing as you can have your logo custom imprinted on the barrel so when the Cryo gun lights up it shows the brand or logo on the barrel for everyone to see. The output is the same and the weight is a little heavier than the standard basic unit. This style of co2 cannon also has a second handle to allow the user extra control as its a little longer than some of the other models previously discussed. The same goes for this style as the lighted style above, the led lights do not affect the output of the co2. Also with the previous style, this led co2 canon requires batters to illuminate the lights, again not affecting the output at all, just the lights.

All in all, regardless of which style or model of Co2 Cannon you end up getting, you are assured to have a great time and get out of it what you expected. Not only can they cool off the crowd and create an effect which is just now becoming widespread, but they will get you the attention you have always longed for regardless what it is you are going to use it for, whether it be a private event, a dj performance, an entertainment act, a concert, an event or bar, special effects for a movie or film or any other type of event not listed here!
