What is a Co2 Cannon?

Many talks and debates have risen to the names of certain items and whether or not these names are specific to any certain brand or model. In particular, co2 cannon. So what exactly is a co2 cannon? Well, in the industry of Co2 Special Effects there are many names used loosely to describe different products. Here we will use the handheld Cryo gun as an example for case and point. Names such as Co2 Gun, Cryo Cannon, Co2 Cannon (also C02 Cannon), Cryo Pistol, and Handheld Co2 Jet have been used. Variations in spelling have also been seen such as Cryo Canon, Co2 Canon, C02 Cannon, and C02 Canon, which all use one "N" instead of two in the later of the two worded name.

As you can see, with all the names circulating online, things can get confusing. What's not confusing is that, regardless of the names used to label any specific product, the term Co2 Cannon actually depicts an effect and a style of special effects products used within a event". Going back to basics, when dissecting the two word phrase, "cannon" labels the type of product and effect, a device that ejects or shoots matter out of itself such as Cryo Cannon, Co2 Cannon, Cryo Canon, Co2 Canon, Cryo Jet or Handheld Co2 Jet. The first part of the phrase "co2" labels the type of gas. So when combined, Co2 Cannon, regardless spelled with two "N's" or one (Co2 Canon), is used to describe, in general, a special effect style apparatus used to shoot effects such as fog, co2, or confetti within a event.

When reviewing the creation and progression of certain terms such as C02 Cannon, foreign countries outside the United States and overseas such as Brazil, France, and others within European Union, have taken credit for first use of these terms. Whereas the term Cryo Gun originated in the medical field naming the type of apparatus that freezes by method of spraying liquid co2 (used commonly to freeze warts off), this same term made its way to the special effects industry as the product used within co2 special effects also sprays liquid co2, so essentially the two uses are very similar but different methods of use, different industries, and of course, with special effects co2, the Cryo Gun sprays much much more co2 out.

Moving forward in time, after the Cryo Gun has made a name for itself in the co2 special effects business, people in other countries would start searching for it online. These search terms weren't always "Cryo Gun" as people in other countries call items such as "Gun" a different name. Furthermore slang progressed, terms got intermixed, and before you know it, a simple two word phrase now took on many names. And it didn't stop there, as these searches broadened to include the usage and venues used. One of the more popular to come about, Co2 Cannon, similarly Co2 Canon. Other terms such as Cryo Cannon also spelled Cryo Canon, Co2 Cannon or Co2 Canon (even C02 Cannon) have been used as the word Cannon takes the place of Gun when used in other countries. The same with Pistol and Jet as seen with Cryo Pistol, Co2 Pistol or Handheld Co2 Jet and Handheld Cryo Jet.

As you can see things can get pretty tricky with names of co2 special effects products. Things can also get confusing with the settings they are used in and the type of products as well. Hopefully we have cleared up some confusion here, so in the future if you happen to be searching for a Co2 Cannon or Co2 Canon, you'll be ready to be bombarded with so many different options! Coachella 2014 is bigger and badder than ever! In keeping on board with the latest trends within the production industry, what more appropriate would it be to incorporate Co2 Jets and Co2 Cannons?! Local production crews and production staff received the Co2 Jets (also named Cryo Canons) and set them up accordingly. Setup finished just in time for weekend 1 of Coachella Music Festival 2014. Weekend 2 of Coachella is still a day away, but there's no doubt that it will be as eventful, if not more, than weekend 1. After review of Coachella 2014 weekend 1, it was apparent that the Co2 Jets were a hit as they appeared front and center for Calvin Harris closing out weekend 1 on the Main Stage. Yes you have seen them everywhere. The infamous Co2 Cannon. Whether it was at an event, on a music video, at a large scale event or by a friend at a backyard party, they are out there and they are in full effect. Whether you've seen it advertised as "Co2 Canon" or " Co2 Cannon" the principle is the same, it's a Handheld Cannon and it sprays liquid co2 at crowds of people by usage of an operator.  There are many models and styles but the general purpose is the same. The basic Co2 Cannon

The basic co2canon is the most sought after piece of special effects equipment available. This lightweight handheld co2 cannon can be used by anyone, and due to its small size and lightweight, can be maneuvered and transported with ease. The Dual Nozzle Co2 Cannon

The Dual Nozzle Canon is another very popular item. It combines the previously mentioned co2 cannon with simply another nozzle. So instead of having one nozzle, there are two nozzles, which shoot the stream of co2 in the same direction. Depending on the maker, some designed allow the user to adjust the angle of the nozzles so the streams can spray in different areas. This is useful if you are trying to cover more of an area with just one piece of equipment. Other features are normally the same since there is just another nozzle added on, however sometime there will be a handle added as well for further stability.

The Custom Logo Co2 Cannon

That's right, the custom logo co2 canon features your custom logo on the co2 cannon itself. The Lighted Co2 Cannon

The step up from the standard Cryo gun is the lighted co2 canon. This style of handheld co2 cannon incorporates a light on the top which lights the stream of Co2 up as it shoots out of the end. This is an added feature which many take liking to as when it is used within an event environment, or a dark non-lit area, the light will illuminate the cloud of co2 allowing the ability to see the cloud from across the room or area. Lenses can be placed over the light so different colors can be chosen. The light does not change the output at all and only adds minimal weight since it is similar to the weight of a flashlight. Depending on the model of lighted co2 cannon, you can adjust the zoom of the light for a larger or smaller circle of light, similar to a zoom on a flashlight. This model of co2 canon comes with a second handle for more control of where the unit will spray and also requires batteries for the light only.

 

 The LED Co2 Cannon

Many inquiries and conversations have evolved around the LED co2 canon. This by far is the most flashy style of co2 cannon. Some styles remains one color when lit and others will cycle through a preset band of colors, generally red, green, and blue. These items are also good for marketing as you can have your logo custom imprinted on the barrel so when the Cryo gun lights up it shows the brand or logo on the barrel for everyone to see. The output is the same and the weight is a little heavier than the standard basic unit. This style of co2 cannon also has a second handle to allow the user extra control as its a little longer than some of the other models previously discussed. The same goes for this style as the lighted style above, the led lights do not affect the output of the co2. Also with the previous style, this led co2 canon requires batters to illuminate the lights, again not affecting the output at all, just the lights.

All in all, regardless of which style or model of Co2 Cannon you end up getting, you are assured to have a great time and get out of it what you expected.
